I’ve seen faces of blank terror when I walk by. Sometimes from seemingly strong, macho dudes—somehow my presence confuses and ultimately scares them. There is a strange power to it that I’ve only recently begun to understand and embrace. After many years trying to sort out exactly what they are scared of, most of the time converting the result into personal shame, there are now moments of monstrous pride.
Perfume Genius recording proper glam rock was supposed to happen someday - that day finally came and it’s even better than you dreamt it would be. Queen is about gay panic, the feeling some people experience when they encounter gays and are deafened with a sudden fear: Perfume Genius perfectly captures the silliness of it all with Queen, in which he pretends to be the “sea witch with penis tentacles” those kind of people pretend. It’s the first song off his new record Too Bright which was recorded with Adrian Utley (Portishead) and out on September 22.
